Changemaker Challenge 3

For our volunteer challenge, our group decided to participate in an event focused on ethical AI. We hosted a Kahoot quiz about artificial intelligence and followed it with an open discussion about how people use AI, the concerns they have, and what they think the future of AI will look like. The event took place on Thursday, and it was in partnership with Cloud computing club.

During the Kahoot, we asked questions about what AI actually is, where it’s used, and what kinds of ethical problems can come up, like bias or data privacy. It was fun and interactive, and people got really into it. After the quiz, we talked about the ways AI affects everyday life, from social media recommendations to writing tools. Some people were excited about how convenient AI can be, while others were more cautious about its influence and possible misuse. The discussion was honest and open, and everyone walked away with something new to think about.

One of my biggest takeaways was realizing how many people use AI without really knowing how it works. It made me think about how important education and transparency are when it comes to technology. I also learned that ethical AI isn’t just about avoiding harm it’s about being thoughtful and intentional with how it’s created and used.

What I learned most from this challenge is that AI ethics isn’t just a technical topic; it’s deeply connected to social issues like fairness and accessibility. I came away with a better understanding of how much human judgment and responsibility are involved in developing technology that’s fair and trustworthy.

The most successful part of the event was definitely the Kahoot. It got people laughing and thinking at the same time, and it helped break the ice for the deeper conversation that followed. The least successful part was time management. We had so many good questions and comments that we ran out of time before we could cover everything we planned.

If I could do this event again, I’d probably shorten the quiz and leave more space for discussion. It might also be interesting to bring in a guest speaker, maybe someone who works in AI or tech ethics, to add another layer of perspective.

This challenge will definitely help me moving forward. It gave me more confidence to lead discussions on complex topics and reminded me how important it is to make these conversations approachable for everyone. It also strengthened my belief that being informed and thoughtful about technology is something we should all care about.

After completing this challenge, I still have some questions. I’m curious about how AI regulations will develop over time and who gets to decide what “ethical” really means. I also wonder how we can make sure AI systems are transparent and accountable not just to the companies that create them, but to the people who are affected by them.

Overall, this experience helped me see how community education can spark real curiosity and understanding around complicated issues. It made me hopeful that by having more open conversations like this, we can make sure AI is used responsibly and for the good of everyone.
